Jason Lear, principal at batt + lear (a design build company that has been dedicated to sustainable new buildings and remodels for 25 years), and Leah Missik, with the No on 2066 campaign, participated in a Seattle Channel debate on Initiative 2066, which would drive up costs and roll back the clock on energy efficiency. Claire Lane, Director of the Anti-Hunger & Nutrition Coalition, participated in the debate introduction.
Here is the No campaign’s opening statement:
“Initiative 2066 would drive up costs while turning back the clock on energy efficiency. It’s one of four measures that were put on the ballot in Washington this year by a group of right-wing ideologues in partnership with corporate special interests. The PAC behind this initiative has received donations from out-of-state fossil fuel corporations and Koch Industries (as in, the Koch Brothers). But of course the main reason we oppose I-2066 is because of the impact it would have on us. I-2066 will lead to higher costs on families, on homeowners, on renters, and on businesses. It would attack energy efficiency standards and modern building protections. There’s a reason why over 100 organizations and businesses have joined the campaign against this initiative in the past month, including small businesses, builders, affordable housing developers, nurses and doctors, and advocates for people living on low incomes. I-2066 is a special-interest backed attack on efficiency that aims to drag us back into the past. Vote NO.”
